| The report's recommendations call for increased teacher effectiveness, more help for low-performing schools, voluntary national standards, longitudinal data systems, and an additional assessment in 12th grade to ensure that high school graduates are prepared for college or work. The modeling techniques we used in the analysis have become fairly standard in analysis of longitudinal data such as ours; these techniques properly account for the within-subject correlation in the repeated measures for each subject. Due in part to the information gathering and reporting requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act, states are investing in student information systems (also called longitudinal data systems) as a way to track student progress over time. |
