TRPM5

A gene on chromosome 11p15.5 which encodes a voltage-modulated, Ca2+-activated, monovalent (VCAM) cation channel, which mediates transient membrane depolarisation and plays a central role in taste transduction. TRPM5 may be involved in sensing bitter, sweet and umami tastes, and in sensing semiochemicals.
