leukocyte adhesion deficiency (LAD), an autosomal inherited disorder caused by a defective integrin molecule (CD18) that is important for cellular adhesion. This defect causes neutrophils to be immotile and unable to phagocytose. Patients with LAD have recurring bacterial infections and impaired wound healing, which may lead to necrosis and gangrene.
