Leucocytozoon a protozoan parasite of avian erythrocytes transmitted by the 'blackfly' Simulium spp. Infection causes the disease leucocytozoonosis. Leucocytozoon andrewsi see L. caulleryi (below). Leucocytozoon bonasae found in grouse and ptarmigan. Leucocytozoon caulleryi (Leucocytozoon andrewsi) found in chickens; causes leucocytozoonosis. Leucocytozoon grusi found in cranes. Leucocytozoon mansoni found in grouse. Leucocytozoon marchouxi found in doves and pigeons. Leucocytozoon sabrazesi found in fowl. Leucocytozoon sakharoffi found in crow and other wild birds. Leucocytozoon schoutedeni chickens only in east Africa. Leucocytozoon simondi (Leucocytozoon anseris, Leucocytozoon anatis) found in ducks and geese. Leucocytozoon smithi found in turkeys.
