Lepus a group of lagomorphs, members of the Lepus spp. of the family Leporidae. Differing from the rabbits who are in the same family, by the length of their ears, and because they do not burrow and they do not live in social groups as rabbits do. Includes L. americanus (snowshoe hare), L. arcticus (arctic hare), L. californicus (black-tailed jackrabbit), L. europaeus (European brown hare), L. timidus (mountain hare).
