The form sometimes known as English lavender, Lavandula x intermedia, is a cross between Lavandula spica and Lavandula latifolia, another species from the western Med.
Old cottage favourite is still worthy of a spot by The Journal (Newcastle, England)
The kind generally known as Old English lavender is Lavandula spica , also sold as angustifolia or officinalis , which has pale blue or mauve flowers on a fairly large bush up to 90 cm (3ft) in height and spread.
