Although work on the problem is still in an early stage of development, it has been found that di-n-octyl tin maleate and di-n-octyl tin laurate have stabilizing effects of the same order as the corresponding butyl compounds but are not at all toxic. Various zinc soaps such as zinc stearate, zinc laurate, zinc tallowate, zinc naphthenate, zinc resinate and zinc 2-ethylhexanoate are currently used in rubber compounds as additives. Most plants produce fatty acids with 16 or 18 carbon atoms, but laurate contains just 12. |
