Pedicle screws were placed in T1, T2, T3 and lateral mass screws in C4, C5, and C6 using anatomic landmarks and an image intensifier. With fluoroscopic guidance we placed titanium screws into predrilled holes, starting at the arch of C2 and proceeding in the direction of the lateral mass of C1 (figure 3). It is similar in strength to a technique which involves placement of a screw into the pars of C2, another into the inferior aspect of the lateral mass of C1, and connection of the two with a rod. |
