DYNLL1

A gene on chromosome 12q24.23 that encodes a dynein light chain that acts as a non-catalytic accessory component of the cytoplasmic dynein 1 complex. It links dynein to cargos and adapter proteins, regulating dynein function. DYNLL1 binds and inhibits neuronal nitric oxide synthase; it promotes ESR1 transactivation and plays a role in the nuclear localisation of ESR1, and regulates apoptotic activities of BCL2L11 by sequestering it to microtubules. Apoptotic stimuli is followed by BCL2L11-DYNLL1-complex dissociation from cytoplasmic dynein and translocation to mitochondria and BCL2 sequestration, neutralising the complex’s antiapoptotic activity.
