paradoxic rise in the jugular venous pressure on inspiration in constrictive pericarditis or chronic obstructive airways disease.

In constrictive pericarditis, a paradoxic increase in venous distention and pressure or failure to collapse during inspiration; seen occasionally in effusive-constrictive pericarditis when tamponading pericardial fluid overlies a constricting epicarditis.
