Kupffer's cells
[koo͡p′fərz] Etymology: Karl W. von Kupffer, German anatomist, 1829-1902 specialized cells of the reticuloendothelial system lining the sinusoids of the liver. The function of Kupffer's cells is to filter bacteria and other small foreign proteins out of the blood. Kupffer's cells large, stellate or pyramidal, intensely phagocytic cells lining the walls of the hepatic sinusoids and forming part of the reticuloendothelial system.
