lizard [liz′ərd] Etymology: L, lacerta a scaly-skinned reptile with a long body and tail and two pairs of legs. The large Gila monster of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah and the beaded lizard of Mexico are the only North American lizards known to be venomous.
