KLF17

KLF17

A gene on chromosome 1p34.1 that encodes a transcription-repressing member of the Kruppel-like zinc finger DNA-binding protein family that binds to the promoter region of target genes, preventing their expression; it is a negative regulator of epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis in breast cancer.

London, Oct 6 (ANI): Wistar Institute scientists have identified a gene called KLF17, which appears to be involved in the spread of breast cancer throughout the body.
RNA retrieved from the metastasized cells corresponded to KLF17.
The researchers also were interested specifically in genes whose expression were increased in KLF17 knockdown cells but decreased in KLF17 overexpressing cells or vice versa.
Among them, the gene Id1 was found to be up-regulated in KLF17 knockdown cells and down-regulated in KLF17 overexpressing cells.
