Jade Goody effect

A popular term for the increase in colposcopies and requests for cervical screening tests due to an increase in doctor visits by young women in the UK, which followed the very public 2008 diagnosis—and subsequent death—of advanced cervical cancer in the 26-year-old British reality TV star, Jade Goody. She died in March 2009, less than a year after her diagnosis.

More women were seen to make their smear test appointments after Goody's passing, but nine years on a cervical cancer charity boss warned "The Jade Goody effect has long gone".
