intravenous pyelogram
n. Abbr. IVP
A radiologic study in which intravenous injection of a radiopaque contrast medium that is excreted by the kidneys allows visualization of the renal pelvices and urinary tract.

Intravenous pyelogram (IVP)
A procedure where a dye is injected into a vein in the arm. The dye travels through the body and then concentrates in the urine to be excreted. It outlines the kidneys, ureters, and the urinary bladder. An x ray of the pelvic region is then taken and any abnormalities of the urinary tract are revealed.

In many radiology departments, intravenous urograms and barium enemas have disappeared from the general diagnostic division and reemerged as CT procedures.
A host of radiologic studies can show bladder calculi, including CT, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, and intravenous urogram, but contrast-enhanced CT is the test of choice because of its remarkable sensitivity in detecting urinary tract stones, including those composed of uric acid.
Intravenous urogram imaging showed a mass occupying half of the bladder capacity.
