intraoperative ultrasound

intraoperative ultrasound,
a diagnostic technique that uses a portable ultrasound device to scan the spinal cord during spinal surgery. The method enables surgeons to locate and identify tumors of the central nervous system that may not be detected by computed tomography or other techniques. Intraoperative ultrasound can distinguish between syrinxes, or fluid-filled cysts, and neoplastic growths in nervous system tissue.
