Africa's longest-serving leader, Bongo died on Monday aged 73 in a clinic in the Spanish city of Barcelona where he had been treated for intestinal cancer.
The Gabonese government had previously said that Bongo was admitted to the Qurion clinic for a medical check-up but several sources said he was being treated for intestinal cancer.
They were discovered by German television station ZDF and the New York Times in a Cairo hotel where Heim allegedly lived out the final years of his life before dying of intestinal cancer, but it was not clear if the media outlets had them in their possession.
