9) Unfortunately, defects in the interlobar fissures of the lung can inhibit collapse of targeted areas by providing collateral ventilation.
Typical clinical and radiological signs such as fever, auscultation abnormalities, triangular opacification of a segment, or a lobe with signs of volume loss (shift of the interlobar fissure and sometimes of the mediastinum, accompanied with compensatory overinflation of the remaining aerated segments) were helpful in the diagnosis of atelectasis.
Chest x-ray and high-resolution CT scan showed disseminated, small granulomas of the lung bilaterally with slightly thickened interlobar septs.
