a scoring system for assessing trauma; used in humans. Each injury is assigned a numerical value, based on severity and body region. The ISS is a sum of the scores squared, from the three regions with the highest scores.

Outcome parameters included pulmonary complications, ICU length of stay, hospital and ICU length of stay, Injury Severity Score (ISS), number of vent days, number of rib fractures, mechanism of injury, and discharge disposition.
The groups were matched in terms of age, sex, mechanism of injury, blood pressure upon entry, Injury Severity Score (ISS) and transport time.
In addition, data on patient age, sex, Injury Severity Score (ISS), Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, mechanism of injury, indication for cricothyroidotomy, days until decannulation or conversion to tracheostomy, complications, length of stay, and disposition were collected for each patient in the series.
