a declining to do something or to accept something.
conscientious refusal conscientious objection.
informed refusal refusal of treatment after one has been informed about it in an effort to gain informed consent.
refusal of treatment a declining of treatment; it may be either informed refusal or not fully informed.

Patients have provided an informed refusal of standard therapy for a minor condition for which patients commonly refuse treatment and when withholding such therapy will not lead to undue suffering or the possibility of irreversible harm of any magnitude.
Informed Refusal The patient has the right to refuse recommended treatment.
An informed refusal cannot be disregarded even if treatment is in the patient's best interests.
