excipient /ex·cip·i·ent/ (ek-sip´e-int) any more or less inert substance added to a drug to give suitable consistency or form to the drug; a vehicle.
excipient (ik·siˑ·pē· n ingredient, such as alcohol, which is used as a dilutent or as a vehicle for a drug. Excipients are generally inert, but may cause adverse effects in some individuals. excipient (eksip´ē n an ingredient included in a pharmaceutical preparation for the purpose of improving its physical qualities.
