Selective immunoglobulin A deficiency An AD condition that is the most common–1:600 in US–primary immune system disease, characterized by ↓ IgA to < 50 mg/L–normal 760-3900 mg/L; US 76-390 mg/dl Clinical ↓ immune function, ↑ RTIs, ↑ GI infections, autoimmune disease–eg, SLE, RA, arthritis; fatal hemolysis with blood transfusions, due to production of natural anti-IgA antibodies; other features include intestinal lymphangiectasia, gluten-sensitive enteropathy, allergies, 7S IgM antibodies to food, especially to milk Treatment IV immune globulin may be effective in some Pts
