ilium /il·i·um/ (il´e-um) pl. i´lia [L.] the expansive superior portion of the hip bone (os coxae); it is a separate bone in early life.

ilium (il´ē n the most superior of the three bones that make up the innominate bone. The ilium forms part of the acetabulum. The iliac crest is a source of bone for mandibular and chin reconstruction and enhancement.
