IL26

IL26

A gene on chromosome 12q15 that encodes a protein belonging to the IL10 family of cytokines thought to have a pro-inflammatory role in mucosal immunity; it is inhibited by heparin. IL26:
• Activates STAT1 and STAT3, MAPK1/3 (ERK1/2), JUN and AKT;
• Induces expression of SOCS3, TNF-alpha and IL-8;
• Induces secretion of IL-8 and IL-10 and surface expression of ICAM1; and
• Decreases proliferation of intestinal epithelial cells.

Molecular pathology
IL26 may play a role in inflammatory bowel disease.

In addition, the expression of 7 cytokines genes (IL-22, VEGFA, IL26, CXCL14, BMPER, IL-17D, and CCL20) and 16 receptor genes (IL-22RA1, CXCR3, IL-17RC, IL-1RAPL2, IFITM5, NRG2, TNFRSF14, LEPREL2, IL-11RA, LTBP2, ILDR1, IL-17RD, MC1R, IL-22RA2, LEPREL1, and LILRA5) were significantly downregulated by 3.
PLA2G2E, IFNG, IL26 and IL22 are known to play a role in inflammation and the immune response.
