IL25

IL25

A gene on chromosome 14q11.2 that encodes interluekin-25, a proinflammatory cytokine that induces activation of NF-kappa-B and stimulates proinflammatory IL-8 production. IL25 favours Th2-type immune responses.

However, researchers have discovered that in mice damaged epithelium of mucosa containing innate immune cells secrete Th2 cytokines IL13 and IL5 in response to IL33 and IL25.
The second study reported that IL33 and IL25 administered to IL13 reporter mice led to accumulation of lineage negative IL13 positive population named nuocytes.
This suggests that IL25 receptor signalling may provide a new therapeutic target for the treatment of breast cancer, she said.
The research team demonstrated that a molecule called IL25, a member of the IL17 cytokine family, promotes the accumulation of a lineage-negative multipotent progenitor cell population in the intestine that promotes T cell responses associated with asthma and helminth infection.
The ability of IL25 to induce the emergence of an MPP cell population identifies a link between the IL17 cytokine family and extramedullary haematopoiesis and suggests a previously unrecognized innate immune pathway that promotes TH2 cytokine responses at mucosal sites.
