A plant hormone that stimulates growth.

indoleacetic acid
[in′dōləsē′tik, -əset′ik]
a major terminal metabolite of tryptophan that is present in very small amounts in normal urine and excreted in elevated quantities by patients with carcinoid tumors. It is measured as 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid.
