Dysthymia is also known as a low grade depression and in order to be diagnosed with dysthymic disorder, two or more of the following would be present: poor appetite, overeating, insomnia or hypersomnia, low energy or fatigue, low self-esteem, poor concentration, difficulty in making decisions, or feelings of hopelessness. Clinical literature shows that depression could have two different manifestations of symptoms, the negative affect melancholic type of symptoms that involve hypersomnia or eating more than usual, and the depression involving manic states characterized by overeating and insomnia (NIH, 1997). Autoantibodies to a 68/48 kDa protein in chronic fatigue syndrome and primary fibromyalgia: a possible marker for hypersomnia and cognitive disorders. |
