hyoglossal /hyo·glos·sal/ (-glos´'l) pertaining to the hyoid bone and tongue or to the hyoglossus muscle. hyoglossal [hī′ō-glos′əl] Etymology: Gk, hyoeides, upsilon, U-shaped glossa, tongue pertaining to the tongue and the horseshoe-shaped hyoid bone at the base of the tongue immediately above the thyroid cartilage.
