original antigenic sin the observation that a secondary immune response occurs when B lymphocytes are exposed to closely related, but not identical, antigens and that the antibodies formed react more strongly with the antigen that elicited the primary response. Called also the doctrine of original antigenic sin. Noted originally for influenza virus. See also memory cells. |
