rosette /ro·sette/ (ro-zet´) [Fr.] any structure or formation resembling a rose, such as (a) the clusters of polymorphonuclear leukocytes around a globule of lipid nuclear material, as observed in the test for disseminated lupus erythematosus, or (b) a figure formed by the chromosomes in an early stage of mitosis. Flexner-Wintersteiner rosette a spoke- and wheel-shaped cell formation seen in retinoblastoma and certain other ophthalmic tumors. Homer Wright rosette a circular or spherical grouping of dark tumor cells around a pale, eosinophilic, central area that contains neurofibrils but lacks a lumen; seen in some medulloblastomas, neuroblastomas, and retinoblastomas or other ophthalmic tumors.
