a method for separating molecules extremely rapidly based on their electrophoretic mobility.
capillary zone electrophoresis A rapid, sensitive and efficient high-resolution method for separating proteins, nucleic acids, carbohrates and bacteria, which is used in analytical chemistry, biomedical research, diagnostics, environmental science, food science, forensic science and toxicology. CZE separates ions based on their charge and frictional forces within a fine bore (< 1-mm diameter) capillary. CZE is sensitive in the picomolar range, which is 10,000-fold more sensitive than conventional electrophoresis.
