Hemosiderosis

Hemosiderosis
An overload of iron in the body resulting from repeated blood transfusions. Hemosiderosis occurs most often in patients with thalassemia.

Other co-existing conditions in these patients included chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes mellitus, cirrhosis, Grave's disease, hemosiderosis, Hodgkin lymphoma, and ovarian cancer.
Necropsies of the dead manatees revealed severe catarrhal rhinitis, pulmonary hemorrhage and edema, and nonsuppurative leptomeningitis, as well as possible chronic hemolytic anemia with multiorgan hemosiderosis and evidence of neurotoxicity.
