That was good news for trainer Lori Ramey from the Sam Simon Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides hearing dogs - known also as assistance dogs - to deaf and hard- of-hearing people.
Publishes Legal Rights of Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs, and Service Dogs, which includes a summary of state policies regarding service dog access; $6.
With service dogs as the cornerstone, the CCI program expanded in the 1980's to hearing dogs trained to alert the deaf or hearing-impaired to the sounds they cannot hear, as well as social dogs for children with disabilities, individuals with developmental disabilities or any situation where the supervision of a third party is required.
