Etymology: Gk, bone
the basic central structural unit of compact bone, consisting of the haversian canal and its concentric rings of 4 to 20 lamellae. Most of the units run with the long axis of the bone. Also called haversian system.

n the three-dimensional reconstruction of concentric lamellae arranged circumferentially about the course of a central blood vessel.
