Hatchcock sign

A near-extinct term dignifying the pain evoked by lightly touching the angle of the jaw in children with mumps.

Hatchcock sign

Tenderness just beyond the angle of the jaws when the finger follows on the undersurface of the mandible toward the angle. This may be found in mumps before any swelling can be detected.
