tamsulosin /tam·su·lo·sin/ (tam-soo´lo-sin) an α specific for the receptors in the prostate; used as the hydrochloride salt in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
tamsulosin, a selective antiadrenergic agent. indications This drug is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. contraindication Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. adverse effects Adverse effects of this drug include asthenia, insomnia, chest pain, amblyopia, floppy iris syndrome, nausea, diarrhea, dysgeusia, decreased libido, abnormal ejaculation, back pain, rhinitis, pharyngitis, and cough. Common side effects include dizziness and headache. tamsulosin [tam-soo´lo-sin] an alpha-adrenergic blocking agent specific for receptors in the prostate; used as the hydrochloride salt in treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, administered orally.
