tamsulosin /tam·su·lo·sin/ (tam-soo´lo-sin) an α specific for the receptors in the prostate; used as the hydrochloride salt in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. tamsulosin, a selective antiadrenergic agent. indications This drug is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. contraindication Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. adverse effects Adverse effects of this drug include asthenia, insomnia, chest pain, amblyopia, floppy iris syndrome, nausea, diarrhea, dysgeusia, decreased libido, abnormal ejaculation, back pain, rhinitis, pharyngitis, and cough.
