Hand Mirror Cell

A lymphocyte with the nucleus at the ‘mirror end’ and an elongated cytoplasmic appendage or uropod mimicking a mirror’s handle. Hand mirror cells may correspond to immature T lymphocytes, large granular lymphocytes—e.g., NK cells—and atypical lymphocytes; found in benign—e.g., infectious mononucleosis—or malignant hematologic conditions. Hand mirror cells are most common in ALL, FAB L1 or L2 subtypes, but also seen in lymphosarcoma, myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, CLL, AML, FAB M5a subtype
