halofantrine/hal·o·fan·trine/ (-fan´trēn) an antimalarial used as the hydrochloride salt in the treatment of acute malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax.
indication It is used to treat mild to moderate malaria.
contraindication Known hypersensitivity to halofantrine prohibits its use.
adverse effects Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, and arrhythmias.
