Haemophilus influenzae type b
n. Abbr. Hib
A gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium of the genus Haemophilus that is found in the human respiratory tract and causes acute respiratory infections, such as pneumonia, and other diseases, especially meningitis in young children. Haemophilus influenzae type b is the most common pathogenic form.
