Cestrum a genus of shrubs in the family Solanaceae. (1) C. aurantiacum (orange-flowered cestrum), C. corymbosum var. hirsutum, C. elegans (C. newelii, C. purpureum), C. fasciculatum (red cestrum), C. hartwegii, C. laevigatum (inkberry bush), C. nocturnum (night-flowering cestrum), C. parqui (green cestrum) cause liver necrosis. The toxin is a carboxyatractyloside. (2) C. diurnum (jasmine, wild jasmine) causes generalized calcinosis through a calcinogenic glycoside. See also enzootic calcinosis.
