Gutierrezia a North American plant genus of the family Asteraceae. Gutierrezia microcephala, Gutierrezia sarothrae contains a toxic saponin which causes an acute illness with sudden death and lesions of gastroenteritis, hepatitis and nephritis. Chronic poisoning causes a syndrome of abortion, stillbirth and retained placenta. Converter plants for selenium. Called also Xanthocephalum lucidum, X. sarothrae, perennial broomweed, slinkweed, snakeweed, turpentine weed. How to thank TFD for its existence?
