gumma /gum·ma/ (gum´ah) pl. gummas, gum´mata  
1. a soft, gummy tumor, such as that occurring in tertiary syphilis.
2. late benign syphilis.

gum·ma (gm)
n. pl. gum·mas or gum·ma·ta (gm-t)
A small, rubbery granuloma having a necrotic center and an inflamed, fibrous capsule. It is characteristic of an advanced stage of syphilis. Also called syphiloma.

gumma·tous adj.

Gumma
A symptom that is sometimes seen in tertiary syphilis, characterized by a rubbery swelling or tumor that heals slowly and leaves a scar.

n a granulomatous, gummy lesion of tertiary syphilis. The palate and tongue are sites of predilection in the oral region. A similar lesion occurring with tuberculosis is designated a tuberculous gumma.
