A germ-free animal infected with one or more microorganisms in order to study the microorganism in a controlled situation.

gnotobiote
a specially reared animal whose microflora and microfauna are known in complete detail. Gnoto is a Greek word for known, and biota is lifeforms, in this case microorganisms. See also gnotobiotic animal.
