We determined glucose in blood obtained from the tail vein using an Accu-check compact glucometer (Roche Diagnostic GmbH, Mannheim, Germany).
Chart review and interviews indicated that neither patient had glucose monitoring by glucometer, blood transfusions, common infusions such as contrast material, or a needle-stick injury report, all events that have been previously implicated in nosocomial malaria.
The equipment available from PIES includes pressure relieving devices, volumetric infusion pumps, syringe and feeding pumps, resuscitation equipment, medical gas equipment, suction equipment, equipment for obese patients, oxygen saturation monitors, patient controlled analgesia boxes, pacing pumps, educational resuscitation equipment and glucometers.
