The smallest image-forming unit of a video display.

pixel
a picture element such as a dot on a video display screen. The greater the concentration of pixels the clearer the image.
A CT scan or PET scan is composed of an array of squares (pixels), each of which is colored a uniform shade of gray or another color. The corresponding region in the tissue slice that is imaged is called a voxel (volume element). See also computed tomography.
