Geigeria a genus of plants in the family Asteraceae. Contain sesquiterpene lactones which cause vermeersiekte—degeneration of skeletal muscles manifested as stiffness and paralysis, plus brain and spinal cord damage. There is also esophageal dilation and vomition. Includes G. aspera var. aspera, G. burkei subsp. burkei var. zeyheri, G. filifolia, G. ornativa (G. africana), G. passerinoides, G. pectidae.
