It was originally developed in 1965, when University of Florida doctors developed Gatorade to help their American football team The Florida Gators perform at their best.
In attempt to appeal to a broader range of athletes and active people, the Gatorade Company, a division of PepsiCo, Chicago, IL, has redesigned its beverage lines.
At the launch, Dr Stavros Kavouras, chairman of Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) in Europe, presented a study highlighting the importance of hydration to achieve superior performance for professional athletes, and general wellbeing for people leading active lifestyles.
