10) PLGAmay stain with glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), but this is usually less consistent than is GFAP staining of pleomorphic adenomas. We could identify typical gene products for the three different cell lineages in undifferentiated neurospheres: neuron specific enolase (NSE) for neurons, GFAP for astrocytes (Figure 3), and proteolipid protein with its splicing variant dm20 (data not shown) for oligodendrocytes. GFAP forms the springy inner filaments that give shape to glia, the support cells that enfold and nourish nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. |
