Magnetic resonance imaging that provides three-dimensional images of the brain based on changes in blood flow and that can be correlated with brain functions.

functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI),
a radiographic technique for imaging brain activity. In fMRI the examiner takes a rapid succession of scans designed to detect increases in oxygen consumption in various regions of the brain, which reflects small changes in blood flow and increased activity in certain cells.
