When necrotizing fasciitis involves the male genitalia, it is referred to as Fournier's gangrene, named for Jean Alfred Fournier, who described cases of scrotal gangrene in 1843. Although the condition of the patient described here did not progress to Fournier's gangrene, this possible additional complication must be considered.
